U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.14%

 U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Utilities and Technology sectors led shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Healthcare and Financials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.14%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.36%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.71%

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 2.25% or 5.42 points to trade at 245.78 at the close. Meanwhile, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) added 2.16% or 11.18 points to end at 528.53 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 1.59% or 3.43 points to 219.73 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which fell 5.11% or 2.23 points to trade at 41.44 at the close. Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE:SHW) declined 2.80% or 9.69 points to end at 336.91 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was down 1.72% or 2.73 points to 155.93.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which rose 23.71% to 203.71, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was up 5.47% to settle at 453.36 and Monolithic Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MPWR) which gained 5.28% to close at 967.34.

The worst performers were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) which was down 5.11% to 41.44 in late trade, Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) which lost 4.99% to settle at 82.11 and Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which was down 4.59% to 125.28 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Spruce Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:SPRB) which rose 1,434.12% to 130.40, Society Pass Inc (NASDAQ:SOPA) which was up 275.89% to settle at 5.30 and Onemednet Corp (NASDAQ:ONMD) which gained 148.54% to close at 2.56.

The worst performers were Lixiang Education Holding Co Ltd (NASDAQ:LXEH) which was down 68.42% to 0.90 in late trade, American Rebel Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:AREB) which lost 28.37% to settle at 7.50 and Dragonfly Energy Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:DFLI) which was down 24.87% to 1.42 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1480 to 1283 and 88 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1820 rose and 1537 declined, while 138 ended unchanged.

Shares in Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 23.71% or 39.04 to 203.71. Shares in Monolithic Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MPWR) rose to all time highs; up 5.28% or 48.51 to 967.34. Shares in Spruce Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:SPRB) rose to 52-week highs; rising 1,434.12% or 121.90 to 130.40. Shares in Lixiang Education Holding Co Ltd (NASDAQ:LXEH) fell to all time lows; losing 68.42% or 1.95 to 0.90. Shares in American Rebel Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:AREB) fell to all time lows; down 28.37% or 2.97 to 7.50. Shares in Onemednet Corp (NASDAQ:ONMD) rose to 52-week highs; rising 148.54% or 1.53 to 2.56.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.68% to 16.37.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.89% or 73.97 to $3,982.87 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.48% or 0.90 to hit $61.78 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.61% or 1.04 to trade at $65.57 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 1.17, while USD/JPY rose 1.95% to 150.33.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.40% at 97.81.
