London stocks dragged down by financials after US lawmaker calls for StanChart probe

U.S. lawmakers called for an investigation into Standard Chartered Bank, alleging sanctions violations. British stocks fell on Friday, led by financial stocks.

New York Republican Representative Elise Stefanik called for a special counsel investigation into Standard Chartered Bank (STAN.L), causing its shares to close down 7.2%.

The blue-chip FTSE 100 index (.FTSE), opens in a new tab, saw its shares and those of several banks fall 0.4% despite hitting a record high earlier in the session.
