U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.04%
U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Healthcare sectors led shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.04%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.24%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.67%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV), which rose 2.05% or 5.52 points to trade at 274.39 at the close. Meanwhile, Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 1.27% or 1.29 points to end at 102.58 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was up 1.08% or 4.50 points to 420.59 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which fell 1.98% or 4.57 points to trade at 225.99 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) declined 1.86% or 4.23 points to end at 223.78 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) was down 1.45% or 4.40 points to 299.84.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Analog Devices Inc (NASDAQ:ADI) which rose 6.23% to 244.79, McKesson Corporation (NYSE:MCK) which was up 3.85% to settle at 702.94 and Paramount Skydance Corp (NASDAQ:PSKY) which gained 3.70% to close at 13.98.
The worst performers were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which was down 7.03% to 23.53 in late trade, Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) which lost 6.33% to settle at 98.69 and Dell Technologies Inc (NYSE:DELL) which was down 4.97% to 128.48 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Tharimmune Inc (NASDAQ:THAR) which rose 200.42% to 3.59, Alpha Technology Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ATGL) which was up 48.91% to settle at 32.76 and Pop Culture Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ:CPOP) which gained 36.14% to close at 1.13.
The worst performers were eLong Power Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:ELPW) which was down 87.55% to 0.40 in late trade, Star Fashion Culture Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:STFS) which lost 78.99% to settle at 0.44 and Windtree Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:WINT) which was down 78.37% to 0.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1440 to 1300 and 98 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1833 fell and 1476 advanced, while 178 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tharimmune Inc (NASDAQ:THAR) rose to 52-week highs; rising 200.42% or 2.39 to 3.59. Shares in eLong Power Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:ELPW) fell to all time lows; falling 87.55% or 2.85 to 0.40. Shares in Star Fashion Culture Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:STFS) fell to all time lows; down 78.99% or 1.64 to 0.44. Shares in Windtree Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:WINT) fell to all time lows; down 78.37% or 0.38 to 0.10.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.83% to 15.70.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.99% or 33.25 to $3,391.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.83% or 1.13 to hit $62.90 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.82% or 1.20 to trade at $66.99 a barrel.
